Moreover, there will be a discussion led by Dr. Butler, a distinguished professor from the Black Diaspora and African American Studies program, on what it means to be part of the Black Diaspora. You'll also have the opportunity to attend informational sessions featuring current Black students, staff, and faculty. The day will conclude with a “Black Family Get Together” a dinner and mixer featuring live music, and another opportunity to meet our community partners, including faculty, staff, and administrators committed to serving our community.

- Don't miss the chance to engage in activities that build community with other incoming Black students. Attend workshops designed to equip you with practical skills for success both in and out of the classroom, and participate in a campus resource fair. The day will wrap up with a game night and dinner hosted by the BRC in partnership with some of our Black student organizations.
- 11:00 am – 3:00pm, Tuesday Sept. 17 | Student Only
- For the first time, the BRC’s new student orientation track will collaborate with Black Surf Week! Join us for an engaging conversation focused on the history of Black people and water, and Black hair and water. The day will conclude with a pool party.
- Times will vary, Wednesday, Sept. 18th | Student Only
- Participants who register to surf with Black Surf Week will be on the beach from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Students who choose not to surf will join us for programming starting at 10:00 AM, which includes a discussion focused on various identities and how they impact your experiences as a Black UCSD student. This discussion will be led by our collectives and Black student organizations, such as the Black Men, Women’s, and Queer collectives. All BRC new student orientation participants will regroup for an activity and conclude the orientation with our final evening social.
The BRC's new student orientation track and the Black Surf Week (BSW) collaboration concludes on September 18th. However, if you have registered, you will have the opportunity to join BSW for an additional two days of surfing on September 19-20th. Please remember to prioritize your mandatory college new student orientation date.
