Frequently Asked Questions

Is my student required to attend both BLNA and their college orientation programs?

Black, Latinx and Native American Family Orientation is optional, and students are not required to attend. However, your student’s college New Student Orientation program is mandatory.

We encourage students to attend both programs. Your student will be acquainted with their college culture through their college’s New Student Orientation, and they will learn about campus-wide resources and community engagement opportunities through the Black, Latinx and Native American Family Orientation.

How do I submit updates to my registration information (i.e. number of guests)?

Please email blnaorientation@ucsd.edu to make updates to the information you submitted via the registration form.

When do students living on campus move in for Fall Quarter?

Each college hosts its own move in for students living on campus. Typically, move in is the third week of September for first-year students (usually tied to new student orientation programs) and the third Saturday of September for returning students. Please visit your student’s college and/or our Undergraduate Housing Move-In/Move-Out page for information.

Can my student move in early if they attend this orientation?

Yes, one of the benefits to attending the Black, Latinx and Native American Family Orientation is that your student will have the opportunity to move into their residence hall early. This will allow them more time to acclimate to residence hall life before classes begin.
